Hardwood Floor Care Tip #1

Although the final coat of finish usually takes 24 hours to dry, the curing or finish hardening process takes 10-12 days. If you’re moving back into your house during that time, you need to be careful around your new floor.

Don’t drag anything across the floor. Don’t set heavy items on a rug, blanket or dolly and pull across the floor. This will leave a drag mark on your new floor. Make sure you lift heavy items and set them in place.

You may cover your floor with rosin paper and secure with ScotchBlue Painter's Tapes. However, don’t tape the paper to your floor.

Instead, tape the paper to a baseboard or shoe mold and lay down a path of cardboard or other thick material on top of the paper layer so that it absorbs the weight of a dolly.

Hardwood Floor Care Tip #2

Never mop a hardwood floor with water, a sponge mop or a string mop. We suggest that you use hardwood floor cleaning products and kits that are found at Lowe's, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target or Amazon.

You don’t need to concoct your own vinegar and water mixture since these products are available on the market. Also, remember not to use a steam mop on your hardwood floor.

Hardwood Floor Care Tip #3

Never use an aerosol dusting product to clean the furniture on or around your hardwood floor. Most of these products have an element of wax in them and the overspray will settle on the floor.

Over time, these elements cause a waxy buildup that will make buffing and re-coating the floor impossible. Polyurethane will not bond if there is a waxy buildup on the floor.
